Turner MIINT Milestone: Winner of the $50,000 Moelis Family Prize, 2023

About: Sunfox is an R&D lab committed to developing cutting-edge healthcare technologies for the digital era. Their aim is to create affordable and accessible technologies, products, and services to empower individuals and communities worldwide.

Q: What was your experience like working with Turner MIINT students?

A: It was an amazing experience working with the students. Their dedication and insights were truly impressive throughout the process. Their insights regarding Social Return on Investment (SROI) really stood out to me. It was a perspective on social impact that I hadn't previously considered, and it fundamentally changed how I look at our work.

Q: Have any of those relationships continued beyond the competition?

A: I visited Oxford once to meet with some of the Turner MIINT team members. That was a great opportunity to meet the students in person and experience Oxford. While we initially hoped to collaborate beyond Turner MIINT, different commitments and alignment meant we didn't move forward on specific projects. However, the experience of engaging with an international student team was valuable for our perspective on global potential.

Q: How did the Turner MIINT program and investment affect your company?

A: The TMIINT investment, alongside an additional $2M USD in funding, has massively shaped the company’s trajectory and growth. Since that round of funding, we have grown 10x to about 170 people on the team and become a profitable company. We also received top national honors, including the National Startup Award in India, and received appreciation from the Indian Prime Minister.

Q: How has your company achieved impact post-MIINT investment?

A: We have grown to become a leader in our category within India and are expanding globally. To date, we have directly impacted over 1 million lives through our work, saving more than 150,000 lives through early detection of heart conditions.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share about this experience?

A: Receiving validation on such a prestigious global stage was a significant milestone for us as an early-stage company. It provided us with a fresh perspective on impact measurement and reinforced our commitment to achieving breakthroughs in global equitable health.
