In 2011–2012, Brian Trelstad conceptualized and piloted an experiential impact investing training program with Acumen Fund. The following year, he brought it to Bridges Fund Management, a UK-based impact investment fund manager.
In the 2013–2014 academic year, Bridges collaborated with an impact-focused initiative at the Wharton School (Wharton) to co-produce the MBA Impact Investing Network and Training (MIINT) program and expand it to be open to participants from a growing cohort of schools. The MIINT program provides graduate students (and select undergraduate business students) with instruction, training, and hands-on experience in social impact investing through a facilitated curriculum that culminates in a student impact investment competition.
In 2017, Bridges Fund Management created the Bridges Impact Foundation (BIF), which then co-produced the program with Wharton.
In 2020, Wharton received a generous charitable naming gift from Lauren and Bobby Turner, after which the program became the Turner MBA Impact Investing Network and Training Program (Turner MIINT). Other contributors include the Ron Moelis Family Foundation, which provides the investment capital for winning teams' companies, and individual donors.
Beginning with the 2025–2026 academic year, the Impact Capital Managers Institute (ICM) announced it will join the Wharton Impact, Value, and Sustainable Business Initiative (Wharton Impact) as co-producer of the Turner MIINT, assuming the role previously held by BIF. Together in this new collaboration, Wharton Impact and ICM will jointly shape the program’s curriculum, oversee operations, lead fundraising efforts, and set the strategic vision for the future.
